Gilsonite employed in modified binders in recycled asphalt pavements, revives, and reinforces the old asphalt, making it much easier to use more recycled material and save-up on the initial investment in the end. A typical Gilsonite- amended asphalt binder offers a tougher road that can be virtually 20 percent thinner than other pavements.

Gilsonite, as an aggregate modifier, may be added directly to the hot mix plant without the need for additional equipment. Thanks to its excellent bonding properties, the resultant pavement will be a much stronger, high-performance water stripping resistant pavement.
